Hints
* Drive on the left!!
* The maps that are referred to in the day trip listings
can be found in a file-box inside the Hilltown. It usually resides in
the family room, though you may have to dig a little deeper than that!
* Unless you only have a couple of days in the Hilltown,
it is best to rent a car. Make sure you phone and reserve one in advance,
or you can try and book the car through a travel web site, like expedia.com.
If you are only planning on a quick trip to the Hilltown, taking the
bus into Donegal town from Dublin is a cheap and fairly painless way
to go. Buses run frequently between Donegal and Dublin, so you’re
bound to catch one of them. As of May 2000, Dublin to Donegal roundtrip
was 14.50 pounds/person.
* Make sure Sean Langan knows that you are coming, so
that he can work out a way to get you past the unstoppable security system
and get the heaters going ahead of time (if applicable).
* Trash disposal can be tricky. There’s a dump in
Ballintra, or you can try more devious methods… some things are
best left UNSAID!
* Taxis from Donegal town to the Hilltown should only
run you 5 pounds, so don’t get tricked into paying 7 pounds!
* If you need information about taxis, buses, etc., head
to the Tourist Information office in Donegal Town. They not only have
the schedules and info you need, but they can often book a room for you,
as well.
* Get some firestarting material at Super-valu, because
the peat often takes a while to heat up.
